The Killer - A Sniper With Little Aim I REVIEW

The Killer - A Sniper With Little Aim  I REVIEW

(Spoiler-Free)

Certified kino director David Fincher droped a new movie, i saw it, lets review it.

The story its pretty minimalistic, plot ambition is kept at bay in favour of a more in this guys head type experience, gritty details trough a minusiois almost Hitchcockian narrative take the spotlight… Did that approach made the movie good though?

Ehhh…

There is for sure some interesting gigs they brought to the table with this hired Killer premise. For one, a close look into this characters life is pretty interesting, made all the more gritty by finchers directing. He is pretty much mastered intensity, action sound and cinematography at this point, there is a ton off effort in the filmaking. Like for instance how detailed the sound mix and design is according to each location and that fantastic fight coreography. He is a very tech rigurous person, sadly one of the few that cares this deeply about it i feel, i get it and really i appreciate that a lot.

I really liked michael fassbenders performance he is as minusious in acting as his character is at killing, being a fincher thing, pretty much everyone did great, from the one scene actors to the main character. One thing that really caught my eye were the how authentic the visceral reactions of people were captured. Not over the top or corny, just the right balance between subtlety and obviousness that sells it perfectly.

Okay, so Fincher has a signature identity, we all knpw, still i don't think that is enough to justify this films lenght and slow pace I guess, and arguably its whole existance, despite how well made it is, and thats its biggest problem. Don't expect like any crazy shake up or thing to be wowed by from this movie, nothing outside of the periferia of the hitman life will happen. He is The Killer, and following him is more interesting than the average guy, yet i still dont feel like i got to see or experience all that much from watching him for 2 hours straight.

This film really has no unique interesting deconstruction or take on the hitman subject. Its just the Killer.

The interesting moral compass questions are there for sure, but the centership is finchers craftsmenship virtue, and that is really the one crucial attractive this film has. But that is it, you cant just base your entire existance in im well made. Otherwise you'll end up with a pretty one note and difficult to get into experience as this film has proven. The aim its so specific it legitimately becomes tiresome and even boring.

You sit there watching the 20 minute long opening monologue where seemingly nothing happens, and by the half mark you either are really into what the movie is doing, or you fell asleep. I wont be mad at anybody if they say this movie bored them. This is not the most exhilarating thing he is put out, its definetly not for everyone, but if you are into quiet almost ASMR type shit, this movie has a good chance of becoming your favourite.

The first 20 or so minutes are pretty aimless. At first it its one noteness becomes tiresome and plain boring.

But then by the end of it i was used and was actually fairly enjoying myself. I guess by the the 1 and a half hour mark i got used to the pacing,

Still, i dont mind this movie, im wildly not outraged nor excitrd about anything from it, but i really dont regret watching it. I obviously like the craftsmenship level and its something i hope fincher is always able to do, just preferably if he aims better next time.

5.5/10

Thats what it gets for now. This might be the movie ive enjoyed the most that ive given such a low rating.
